DHL Express chooses Vitoria Airport to build its second major aircraft repair centre in Europe.

The German giant specialised in express parcel transport has announced its plan to invest in Vitoria-Gasteiz for the creation of a new European hangar for aircraft repair. The new facility, which is expected to be operational by mid-2027, will require an investment of more than €40 million and reinforces the importance of Vitoria International Airport as a hub within the company’s global strategy, chosen by DHL Express as the ideal location to build its second most important repair centre in the European region, the first being located in Leipzig (Germany).

“Vitoria-Gasteiz is within close reach of European countries and Morocco alike, which, alongside the capacity and operational quality of its airport and the support we have received from key public institutions and local authorities, makes it the perfect place to build this new hangar,” said Tomás Holgado, Vice President of Hubs & Gateways for DHL Express Spain.

The centre will house maintenance tasks, initially for the DHL B757 fleet and other company aircraft and, in addition to the hangar itself, will consist of office space and areas dedicated to the storage of tools and main equipment for changing aeronautical parts, such as engines, APU systems, landing gear and thrust reversers. It will span an area of more than 19,700 m², comprising 6,600 m² of hangar space, 1,605 m² of outdoor facilities and a runway area of 11,500 m².

Furthermore, the centre’s activities will also provide a significant boost for local talent as well as the creation of a new high-level qualification training programme, specifically for professional activities linked to aircraft technical maintenance.
