An extensive network of facilities: Álava has a wide network of facilities and areas for sports practice —either in nature, such as the Izki Golf course, or in its urban centres— for a population that is actively involved in sports. 

International events: Álava is home to much highly competitive sport, hosting important international events of various kinds: Euroleague Basketball, the Martin Fiz Marathon, Half Marathon, Ironman, Orbea Gravel Rioja Alavesa, Prueba Vitoria, Hiru Handiak and the Rioja Alavesa Wine Run, along with a huge fan base supporting the local clubs that compete at national level: Araski, Baskonia, Deportivo Alavés and Gloriosas. 

Diversity: the promotion of sports practice from the point of view of functional diversity and people’s capabilities and potential is also a relevant aspect that defines the sports environment in Alava.
