Gometegui was set up In 1977 in Llodio, Spain, with a view to manufacture large components for heavy industry. It has contributed to many important projects, including the construction of the dome for the largest solar telescope in the world, located in Hawaii; the tunnel boring machine for the Barcelona subway; the manufacture of the Wind Turbine Test Laboratory for CENER (the Spanish Renewable Energy Centre); and the turbine rotors for the Three Gorges Dam in China. The current strategy of the new business project led by Sagona Industrial Group—now owner of the company—is centred on diversification, immersing itelf in other markets such as offshore renewable energies and the nuclear industry.
