Vitoria Airport breaks its all-time record for passengers since itopened in 1980.

Vitoria-Gasteiz Airport reached its all-time record in passenger transport in 2023 with 309,929 pas-sengers, the highest figure in its 43 years of operation.

This figure signifies an increase of 31.7% compared to 2022, as part of a very significant upward trend. Observing its evolution from 2019—the year before the pandemic—to December 2023, the number of passengers using Vitoria-Gasteiz airport has increased by 78%. The flights scheduled in 2023 covered many national destinations, including Seville, Alicante, Malaga and Mallorca, as well as international destinations such as Brussels, Milan and Cologne.

Almost matching its record in freight transport.

Just under 2,000 tonnes would allow Vitoria Airport to equal its all-time record for freight transport, which it achieved in 2022 with a total of 73,632 tonnes. Although the year’s trajectory suggested it would match and might even surpass this record, the atypical activity of December—which usually means an increase in parcel shipping—put a brake on these expectations. Nonetheless, the annual balance gave a total figure of 71,689 tonnes moved out of the airport, securing it at fourth place among Spanish airports in terms of freight traffic, beaten only by Madrid, Barcelona and Zaragoza.
