Vitoria-Gasteiz included by the European Union in the list of 100 cities that aspire to be carbon neutral by 2030.

The European Commission has announced the final list of EU cities that will participate in the mission ‘One hundred climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030’. Vitoria-Gasteiz is among the hundred chosen, along with six other Spanish cities.

Vitoria-Gasteiz was put forward in writing by more than 30 public and private organisations belonging to the social, economic, technological, educational and institutional fabric of our community. The plan presented by Vitoria-Gasteiz includes the running of a series of projects throughout this decade linked to six areas of action: sustainable energy, regeneration and urban rehabilitation of low energy efficiency, a Mobility and Public Space Mobility Plan, circularity strategy, green infrastructure strategy and carbon footprint offsetting.

Their being chosen will allow the city to reinforce its decades-long labour in these areas, which has gained it several international awards in support of its trajectory, inlcuding its designation as ‘European Green Capital’ and the ‘Global Green City Award’ that reaffirms Vitoria-Gasteiz as a model sustainable citiy worldwide.
