The Campus Data Center at the Arasur Logistics Platform is advancing in its first phase of construction.

Since the beginning of the construction works, with the official laying of the first stone in mid-2022, the first of its three buildings is expected to become operational in 2023.

The Campus Data Center initiative is backed by Merlin Properties, company that owns 25.14% of Arasur’s share capital. The company is to build a network of ultra energy-efficient and net zero water consumption data centres in Arasur, Lisbon, Madrid and Barcelona through its strategic alliance with Edged Energy. Of the four planned by the company, the Arasur data centre has the largest potential capacity—together with the one to be built in Lisbon—with a maximum of 100 MW.

It is a scalable project starting in its first phase with the occupation of a 23,153 m² plot of land, and the planned construction of three buildings, although the Campus Data Center could be extended to more than 100,000 m², depending on demand.

As for choosing Arasur, the company mentions its convenient interconnection with the large cable station ‘Marea’, its submarine data highway that connects Bilbao to Virginia Beach in the United States, its proximity to Vitoria-Gasteiz and to the energy supply, since—in addition to Arasur’s photovoltaic park that currently contains 67,200 solar panels—there are plans to build Ekienea, a new 200-hectare solar park, promoted by Iberdrola and the EVE on land adjacent to the logistics platform, and which would become the largest to date in the Basque Country.
