Marqués de Riscal

This winery, which is known for having produced the oldest bottled wine from the Rioja appellation, today stands as one of the most famous avant-garde architectural landscapes in the wine tourism sector.
The history of Marqués de Riscal is that of an innovative company, a pioneer and a benchmark in a wine sector under continuous transformation. Founded in 1858, in the town of Elciego, it was the first non-French wine to be awarded the Diploma of Honour at the Bordeaux Exhibition in 1895. It was also an innovator in the production of Rueda white wines. The hotel designed by Frank O. Gehry for La Ciudad del Vino de Marqués de Riscal in Elciego has become a major international wine tourism icon. In 2021 and 2022, the winery was named the second best vineyard in the world in the World’s Best Vineyards Awards.
